A note from the Bruins Backers... our athletic boosters:

The Bruins Backers began in 2010 with a simple goal: to generate support for BDS athletics. But support means many things:  fund-raising, increasing participation in our sports programs, increasing attendance at games, providing funds and personnel to support the needs of our student-athletes, and creating a fun atmosphere for our BDS families.

In 2011, we worked hard to raise funds to provide for some very specific needs which our coaches requested. We accomplished that goal easily thanks to great ticket sales, a concessions contract, and through the many generous donations we received. This year, we are looking to other areas within our athletic program to have an impact. We hope to add opportunities for sponsorships through signage in the gym, we hope to better serve the athletic department by staffing the admissions and scorers tables, and we are seeking donations to run our own concession stand.

The real reason the Bruins Backers exist, though, is to help strengthen our BDS community through athletics. By attending games as a family, or even just allowing your children to attend games, everyone benefits. Younger students who observe the competition learn about competition and good sportsmanship. They also begin building their dreams of someday competing in a similar way. And your attendance also helps support those athletes who work hard in the classroom and on the court or field all season long. If you have ever been to a sporting event anywhere, you know first-hand how the home crowd can really be like an extra player for the team. This basketball season we are trying to create an atmosphere in our gym that can lift our athletes in this fashion.  With the fabulous addition of a large cheer/dance team the noise level has already increased greatly.  We have only played two games thus far this winter season but the gym has been packed both times.  We are seeing an increase in Bruins Backer memberships already and we have had great response to requests for treat donations for the concession stand.  All of this would not have been possible without your support.  

The Bruins Backers are grateful for your generosity.  If you have not yet attended a game, mark your calendar for November 27th and come watch our girls and boys compete against Greensboro Day School. Our athletes have been working hard to improve their games both on and off the court. I have seen these athletes play this year and I have to say, you'll see some great basketball when you come.  Be sure to bring your friends and join us this winter season, we're looking forward to seeing you!
