How is volleyball scored?
After the serve each team has three hits to get the ball back over the net and in bounds. Failure to do this by hitting the ball out of bounds, into the net, or missing the ball is a point for the other team. Each set is played to 25 points and you must win by 2 points. A game is played as a best of 3 sets.
What equipment/uniform do I need?
The uniform top will be provided by the school. Each player should purchase a pair of black spandex shorts to wear during games. Volleyball knee pads are not a neccessity but are encouraged as the girls may need to drop on the knees during the course of practices and games. Though volleyball specific shoes are made any pair of multi-purpose athletic shoe will be suffecient.
Is there an atheltic fee?
Yes.There is an $85 student athlete fee for all sports per season.
When does the season start?
Fall- Early September through late October.
How do I sign my child up for participation in a sport?
Please check the team schedule for the first practice date and time. Plan to attend the first scheduled practice. An Athletics Physical Examination Form is also required to particiapte in sports for the year. Forms are to be submitted via fax or mail to Magnus Student Health Records. A parent/student athlete participation survey will be circulated at start of the sports season and signing your child up for a specific sport will ensure their participation as well.
How are student athletes transported to volleyball events?
Practices will be held in the BDS gym. We utilize a carpool system for transportation to and from away games. You can sign-up to participate in the carpool through the Team Parent Coordinator which will be assigned during the Team-Parent Meeting.
