What is Cross Country?
Cross country is an individual sport scored as a team. Each athlete races a course of about 2 miles then the best seven times for each school are added together to determine the overall team places. The course varies by location though all course are through outdoor trails over grass, gravel, pavement and many courses will traverse through wooded areas.
How is Cross Country scored?
Though cross country is scored as a team the spirit of running is to focus on setting personal records. Though an athlete or team may not ever win the race it is considered more important to try and run each race faster than the previous. All athletes improving on their time from the beginning of the season are considered successful. It will be scored by looking at what place the top 5 finishers for each team earn. Those places will be added up and the school with the lowest total wins.
What equipment/uniform do I need?
Uniforms are being discussed by the coaches and will be available soon.Running shoes are required. Is there an atheltic fee?
Yes.There is an $85 student athlete fee for all sports per season.
When does the season start?
Fall- Early September through late October, although there will be some summer workouts and training.
How do I sign my child up for participation in a sport?
Please check the team schedule for the first practice date and time. Plan to attend the first scheduled practice.An Athletics Physical Examination Form is also required to particiapte in sports for the year. Forms are to be submitted via fax or mail to Magnus Student Health Records. A parent/student athlete participation survey will be circulated at start of the sports season and signing your child up for a specific sport will ensure their participation as well.
How are student athletes transported to Cross Country Events?
Students will travel via a carpool system. Parents are required to plan their childs transportation to practices and from practices (if off campus) and the parent driver sign up form is located under the athletic forms tab. A team roster with phone numbers and emails will distributed to all team members to facilitate carpool to and from practices. Game/Match carpool sign ups may be viewed under the team schedules- click on more info.(under the location of the meet). Student athletes will need to have a current carpool form filled out. __________________________________________________________________________
