Co-Curricular ProgramsIn addition to its excellent academic program, Burlington Day School offers programs outside of the school day. Included are: Drama Club and the annual BDS Spring Musical, after-school tutoring, our athletic program, Battle of the Books, art classes with Mr. Rodney and music lessons with Mrs. Payne. | Drama Club | Meets every other Monday, (see Drama Page & Calendar), and directed by Mrs. Bethany Baker. Available to 3rd graders and up. Emphasis is on developing acting skills through scene work, role playing, trust exercises, improvisation, and focus activities in preparation for theatre performance. All activities are geared towards students' ability levels. Additionally, an appreciation and love for theatre and performing arts is developed. | | | | | Musical Theatre Production | The school's 9th musical theatre production is being planned for spring 2008. Although Drama Club is designed to prepare actors for this production, students are not obligated to participate. By the same token, auditions are open for all students in grades three through eight regardless of Drama club participation. Directed by Mrs. Bethany Baker.
| | | | | Tutoring | Conducted on an as-needed basis and is scheduled directly with your child's teacher(s). | | | | | Athletics | The school is a founding member of the Triad Middle Athletics Conference (TMAC) that includes other schools from Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem. Sports offered at BDS include soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, golf, and cheerleading. Students in grades 5-8 are eligible and a physical examination is required prior to participation. See athletic calendar. | | | | | Battle of the Books | Students in grades 6-8 are eligible to participate in the Battle of the Books team. Members of the team read from a list of 26 titles. The team practices weekly throughout the school year and competes in the spring at system, regional, and state levels. For the last two years, the BDS team has been the Independent School Winner in the state of North Carolina and has gone on to compete against all the public school regional winners at the state level. The team is coached by Theresa Au, and Lana Latham. | | | |
