BDS Athletic Mission Statement
The Burlington Day School Athletic Program will provide opportunities for middle school students to develop the physical and mental skills necessary to compete with their peers in a nurturing setting that develops our core virtues through individual attention from coaches.
BDS Athletic Department Philosophy

The Burlington Day School Athletic Program seeks to offer co-curricular opportunities through athletics that support the virtues endorsed and taught in the
academic setting. While participating in our program, student-athletes will be given opportunities to grow in the school’s core virtues of courage, friendship, honesty, loyalty and responsibility. The program is comprised of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
Our goal is to provide individual attention to student-athletes with coaches that are both highly trained in their sport and exhibit our school’s virtues themselves. The focus for each sport will be on the development of the individuals’ skills within the better good for the team. Student-athletes will learn that athletics is to be about more than winning games and championships. Success for our students comes is knowledge that they have worked as hard as they can to be the best that they can be. Our program will provide opportunities to learn and prepare for future endeavors in high school and beyond.
We will work with students, parents, teachers, and administrators in order to make certain that student-athletes are provided with sports that are beneficial, desirable, and competitive. Not every sport that students-athletes or parents desire can be offered. We have a limited number of athletes from which to choose. However, we will re-evaluate the sports that are offered on a yearly basis so that the needs and desires of the greatest amount of student-athletes are met.
