Facilities

Our school is located in a quiet, residential area on 20 acres of wooded and cleared property. It is home to not only classrooms, but auxiliary facilities that support our curriculum and the BDS experience. 

Classes in Kindergarten through 5th grade are organized into self-contained classrooms with the teacher having responsibility for all instruction except physical education, music, art, guidance and foreign language, which are taught by specialists. Classes in grades 6-8 are departmentalized with instruction given by subject area teachers.

In addition, the school offers:

Gymnasium - for Physical Education classes, athletic events and school-wide assemblies

Outdoor Soccer field - for Physical Education classes, athletic events and the school's annual Field Day

Science Laboratory - available to all grades for science instruction

Archaeological Dig - available to all grades for the purposes of digging and studying fossils

Outdoor classroom - available to all grades as an alternative to indoor classrooms

Kindergarten/Lower School Playground - featuring appropriate playground equipment with wood-chip mulch beds. In addition to the playground, the school also features a paved blacktop area and various tricycles and other non-motorized toys.

Maude Sharpe Powell Library and Media Center - features a print, non-print and electronic collection designed to support and enrich the school's instructional program. These materials represent varying levels of difficulty with a diversity of appeal compatible with different needs, interests, and viewpoints of students and teachers. The Media Center includes five desktop computers and three printers for student use in taking Accelerated Reader tests, doing research  and working on writing and digital presentations.

Notebook Computers  - a mobile station that features 24 notebook computers. This station is predominantly used in Middle School so teachers can integrate technology into their curriculums.In addition to notebook computers, the MIddle School Science classroom and the Middle School Math classroom also feature SMART Boards .  Color laser print capabilities are available on the Middle School corridor.

Computer Lab - features 22 laptop computers for instruction on keyboarding and computer skills. A SMART Board (interactive whiteboard) is utilized extensively in the lab for instructional support.  A color laser printer is available in the lab with the ability to also print to other network printers. The lab is open to all grades to facilitate technology integration into our curriculums.

Student Lounge - a multi-purpose area for use by Middle School. Morning meetings, Student Council and advisory meetings as well as other events are held here.
